How Much is 1,000?
Last week we explored the quantity of 1,000 in many ways. We estimated and counted popsicle sticks and unifix cubes. We discovered that sometimes 1,000 looks like a LOT and other times, not as much as you'd think.
Nearby Nature: Owls
We had an AWESOME Nearby Nature lesson on Friday! We learned about the special adaptations that make owls such great hunters, listened to the owl calls of various Vermont owls and then had a chance to dissect an owl pellet! It was incredible how many bones were found in each pellet!

Properties of Matter
Students observed and explored the textures of baking soda, sand, salt, and cornstarch. They then experimented what happened to each substance when water or vinegar was added.

Nearby Nature: Feathers and Feet
During Nearby Nature this week students got up close to various kinds of bird feathers and feet. They learned why birds have different types of feathers and what their unique functions are. We also explored bird feet and learned that each bird has a special type of foot designed for its lifestyle.
