Community Service: Chopping Veggies!

This week we helped our cafeteria staff by chopping LOADS of veggies to be used in soup throughout the school year. We had a great time chopping carrots, potatoes, onions and more! The class worked for an hour and loved every minute. You all have some budding chefs on your hands!

Morning Writing

Early morning focused writers!

Reading Buddies

We are so lucky to have Mrs. Lodge's awesome 5th graders as our reading buddies. Our class loved having these older students read to them and do some artwork together. On Monday morning we will do it again!

Special Art Project

One of our themes this year is "change over time".  We have chosen a wonderful elm tree in the school yard to observe through the seasons. This week Sarah Ahrens came in and gave us a wonderful art lesson on drawing trees. We then headed out on a gorgeous afternoon armed with oil pastels and a keen eye as students drew the fall version of our tree! THANK YOU, SARAH!!

Partner Reading

During reading workshop students learned the good habits of partner reading. They learned how to choose a book, share the reading and help each other when they get to a tricky word. Their stamina was amazing.....a full 30 minutes of non-stop reading!!

Good 'ol Dominoes

Next week we will be using dominoes to help us learn some basic addition strategies. On Friday, many of us played dominoes for the first time!

Green and Gold Friday's

Show your school spirit and wear green and gold each Friday!

A Ripple of Kindness

Empathy and kindness were the focus of all our read aloud books this week. We learned what it means to have empathy and things we can do to show empathy toward others. Each day students dropped a pebble in a bucket of water to symbolize an act of kindness. As we watched the ripples go out in the water, we imagined how our acts of kindness go out into the world.
