Geography: MAPS!

This week we started our geography unit, We explored map keys, coordinates and compass rose. We learned about taking a "bird's eye view" and sketched some maps of our bedrooms and classroom.

Get those marbles rolling!

This week we kicked off our balls and ramps unit in math. Student teams were given marbles of various mass, paper tubes of all lengths, tape and dominoes. Using their imaginations and engineering skills, they developed some amazing marble runs! Next week we will get more formal. We will complete 3 experiments and write a lab report for each.

Data Collection and Analysis

Over the past weeks students measured themselves, kindergartners and 5th graders. The measurements were then plotted on a line plot and analyzed. Student predictions about what the plot "picture" would look like were quite accurate!

Show day morning!

Poetry Rocks!

We wrapped up our poetry unit with an awesome author's chair. Students will bring home their incredible collection of poems for you to read next week. Be sure to check out their 6-word poems, list poems, simile poems and repeated line poems. You going to love them! Frames may be in order!

Nearby Nature: Honey Bees

This month we had a sweet treat while learning about the amazing life of bees! We learned about the different jobs bees have to make a hive function. We all agreed that the girl bees get the raw end of the deal! 😊  Ask your child to demonstrate the 'bee dance' for you!

Exploring Area with Geoboards

During our geometry unit, students explored area using a variety models. Geoboards are a great tool for students to manipulate area, observe symmetry and solidify their understanding of 2-dimensional shapes.
