Math Projects
We are exploring with many math materials: unifix cubes, polydrons, geoboards, popsicle sticks. We are counting and looking for patterns.
We are using popsicle sticks to represent tally marks and bundles of 5. We are counting by 5's.
Eric Carle Author Study: We painted like the author/illustrator Eric Carle. We added texture to our painting with sponges and brush strokes. We will use this paper to create collages in a class book in the style of Eric Carle.
Our paper dried quickly on this hot, sunny day.
Name Puzzles: We solved our own name puzzles and tried each others.

Math and Literature
We explored counting patterns using Popsicle sticks this week. Each Popsicle has two sticks, which lent itself to counting by two's. We created a chart and made lots of interesting observations.
Today we did some data collection and graphing. Everyone colored a Popsicle to match their favorite flavor and we created a bar graph. We then answered questions about the graph such as:
Which flavor is most popular in our class?
How many more students chose orange than red?
How many fewer students chose green than purple?
We also kicked off our Eric Carle author study today. What makes Eric Carle a unique author and illustrator? We partner read lots of books and shared our ideas.

Happy Friday!
Today our entire team got together for a special project. We read aloud, The Kissing Hand, and then students traced and decorated their hand. All of our hands will come together to create a Kaleidoscope banner.
We ended our day exploring some choice time centers with new friends! It has been an awesome week!!

More First Grade Fun!
Today we started a special book project based on the story, The Day the Crayons Quit. Everyone was excited to get their own new box of crayons!
We are all enjoying getting to know each other. Today we started "Mystery Posters"....a fun way to learn about our new friends.
In math today we introduced our Number Corner activities and then spent some time exploring with our pattern blocks. Students worked in cooperative groups focusing on sharing, helping each other and using kind words. They created amazing things together!

First Day of First Grade!
We had a happy, hot first day of school. Our popsicle party cooled us off.
While enjoying our pops, we found a couple of frogs, who knew where to hang out, the shade!
While enjoying our pops, we found a couple of frogs, who knew where to hang out, the shade!
We finished up with a cool, calm ending to our day. We talked about our team name, played with real Kaleidoscopes and drew our own.
